List-Building Strategies Using Teachers Pay Teachers
In this episode, we discuss how to leverage Teachers Pay Teachers (TpT) as a strategic tool for building the most crucial asset in your business—your email list.
Why Your Email List is Your Business’s Lifeblood
Your email list isn’t just a collection of email addresses; it’s your most valuable business asset.
Building genuine connections with an audience that wants and needs what you offer guarantees sustained growth and profitability.
Unlike social media followers or website visits, an email list is a direct link to your audience, enabling you to nurture relationships and convert subscribers into loyal customers.
The Drawbacks of Teachers Pay Teachers for Selling Products
While TpT can be an alluring platform to sell educational products, it comes with significant limitations.
Most notably, it does not grant you access to your buyers’ email addresses. Without these, you miss out on the opportunity to build ongoing relationships and drive recurring sales.
While I strongly advocate for selling your products on your own website, TpT still holds valuable potential, particularly for list-building.
The Strategy: Leveraging TpT to Build Your Email List
Utilize Free Resources for Maximum Effect
Rather than focusing on paid products on TpT, shift your strategy towards offering free resources. Freebies are a powerful way to attract attention and generate goodwill among your peers.
Aim to create concise, high-quality resources that provide a quick win for the user. Remember, the key isn’t the volume but the value they offer.
Craft Engaging Cover and Thank You Pages
First impressions matter. Ensure your free resource has an attractive cover page to pique interest. Then, include a back page, or “Thank You” page, that encourages users to obtain more free resources.
Provide a compelling call-to-action (CTA) directing them to your main freebie sign-up page. Make sure the URL is easy to remember, such as “teacherbiz.com/challenge” for higher conversion rates.
Add a QR Code for Convenience
To elevate this strategy, consider adding a QR code to the thank you page.
QR codes simplify the process, especially for printed resources. Users can simply scan the code and be directed straight to your sign-up page, increasing the likelihood of them joining your email list.
Real-Life Success: Proof in Numbers
Let’s talk numbers.
Using this strategy, I managed to drive substantial traffic to my email sign-up page. Over two years, my freebie landing page created specifically for TpT accumulated 1,150 visits, with an impressive 74% conversion rate, resulting in 856 new subscribers.
These are not just numbers; they are potential clients and ambassadors for your brand.
Advanced List-Building Tips
For those looking to take the strategy a step further, consistently refreshing and rotating your free resources can keep your offerings dynamic and appealing.
Regular updates can also ensure that your content remains relevant to current teaching trends and requirements.
