Why Teachers Are Perfect for Online Business
In episode 2 of The Teacher Biz Podcast, I dive into the powerful role of teachers in the realm of an online business.
This episode emphasizes how teachers possess a wealth of knowledge and skills that can be transformed into valuable (and profitable) products that people want!
Teachers, homeschool families, and parents of all children are already buying digital products, so why not begin to create your own?
Teachers are Problem Solvers
In case you have never realized it, all businesses revolve around solving problems for customers. People come to the internet to learn how to do things, whether it’s fixing a hole in our wall or learning how to teach our kids how to subtract.
We, as humans, are constantly looking for answers – AKA solutions! We are continually searching for easy resources, and as a former classroom teacher, I can’t tell you how much of my own dollars I spent on resources in order to make my life easier and solve a problem!
People love to purchase products from teachers when it comes to learning new skills because they have the confidence to know that you are teaching concepts in the right way.
One of my products is the Ultimate Alphabet Learning Kit, and it’s a system for teaching your child how to write letters, say letter sounds, and identify all the letters of the alphabet!
Because I am a former educator, not only do I break things down into simple steps, but I also teach how to move your pencil to write each letter and move your mouth to make the sounds.
I want parents to know that there is a right and wrong way to teach letters. Because of my extensive experience, I can help them solve this problem by using the correct method.
Teachers Understand the Power of Keeping It Simple
Teachers are great at simplifying complex concepts and breaking them down into easily digestible pieces.
This skill translates into the online business realm seamlessly. As a teacher, you know how to explain things to your students, and it’s really not that different to be explaining things to your customers.
The most successful businesses online in any niche are really just breaking things down simply for their customers, and it’s proven that communicating at a third-grade language level gets better results than overly intellectual communication! By using a simple-language approach, business owners can effectively connect with learners, while instilling confidence and gaining a better understanding.
The more you talk to people like they are just learning something, the more successful your business will be.
Teachers Want Your Products
There is a huge market for teacher-created products.
Just the fact that Teachers Pay Teachers exists really proves that educators are out there looking for resources to help them and their students.
‘The internet is a big place, and there’s plenty of room for you here!
Never let the fact that someone else is doing what you’re doing or something close to the thing you want to do, deter you.
Let that inspire you.
Let the fact that other teachers are doing this encourage you because there’s plenty of room for all of us. It’s not a competition thing.
People purchase my product, and they will purchase yours too!
Teachers Are Lifelong Learners
I’m sure as an educator, you have had to do some type of professional development. Am I right? During that time, you were learning new tools to add to your toolbox for the classroom.
The same goes for an online business. You can learn new tools to help you create, market, and sell your digital products. There are so many options for teachers! You can start with a principal digital product and then build and create larger products like a digital course over time.
There’s such a huge market for digital courses and for people learning things online. Doesn’t it make sense for a teacher to be teaching on a digital course?
If we can do it in the classroom, we can do it from our homes and deliver it across the internet. Absolutely!
Then beyond that, there are also memberships. I’ll dive more into these in the future, but memberships allow you some sustainability and solid ground for your business! My membership is my favorite product in my teacher biz. However, I actually recommend starting small and building up from there!
As we wrap up this episode, I want you to know that the possibilities are endless. You can create anything from printable learning games, worksheets, or themed activity packs! By starting small, you can test the market to see what types of resources teachers need and begin to get your products out into their hands quickly.
Never underestimate the power of your experience and expertise in the various subjects you teach! By combining your strengths with your passion, you have a gift to bring to this world.
No matter your goal, I know that you can do this, and I’m excited to see what you create!
