Turning a Hobby into a Successful Online Business with Erin Leonard
In this episode of The Teacher Biz Podcast, I had the opportunity to interview my good friend Erin. She is the CEO and founder of Notice the Little Things which encourages moms to look for good throughout all the simple things in everyday life. In this episode, you’ll hear how she turned a hobby into a business, the ups and downs of being a business owner, and the impact one decision has had on her life!
I won’t spoil all the details, but when Erin was in college, she started a gratitude list that quickly caught on like wildfire with friends and family! Little did she know that would be the start of her business career. She worked a few other jobs in the school system but eventually realized that her passion was in creating her own resources in order to fulfill moms on this journey called life.
In 2008, she decided to begin documenting her journey online in a blog. At the time, she didn’t even realize a blog could bring in money and was mainly writing just to get out her own thoughts. Once she learned more about this online business world, she started her email list and grew from there.
Erin understands that having a business mentality doesn’t come easy to everyone and that’s ok. She encourages us to take small, simple steps to begin with and seek out resources that can help! Creating an online business doesn’t have to be complicated and by working together you can get your business idea up and running even faster. That’s what this Teacher Biz Podcast is here to do – help you get your online teacher business up and running!
Just like Erin started small with one product and grew from there – the same can be true for you! In the episode, you’ll hear Erin talk about learning from her mistakes and how her best-seller actually came from trial and error. Because of her teaching background, she was able to understand what kids of different ages need and created Gratitude Journals based on their ages. Now she has multiple products and offers, but they all stem from one thing.
Erin teaches us that the skills you have as a teacher allow you to apply your knowledge to whatever you want to create in the online space. Like I’ve mentioned before, start small and grow from there. Erin is proof of that with her subscription that she just recently launched for moms! She is able to connect and grow her positive community in new and exciting ways than ever before!
Her best piece of advice is to just get started. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s more than likely going to be messy and that’s ok. There’s plenty of trial and error in the online business world, but the faster you create something and get it out there – the quicker you’ll know if people want it!
